About the Member of the Year Competition

The competition for Member-of-the-Year started in 2001 as a replacement for the Office Professional of the Year competition which at the time had loss favour from the membership.

The criteria for the Member of the Year is based on

- The recipient must be a citizen of Barbados and be a member of the Association for at least two years

- The member must have attended at least eighty (80%) of the Association’s meetings during the year

- Of course the member must be financial and in good standing

- He or she must have participated in eighty (80%) of the Association’s activities during the year.

- Must be an active member of a Standing Committee or a sub-Committee.

- The member must uphold the tenets to the Code of Ethics.

- The member must have demonstrated consistent commitment to and support for the work of the Association.

There are several members who might have attended all meetings of the association, they are financial, or they are members of a committee.  I am sure there are many who uphold the tenets of the Code of Ethics. As a matter of fact we all resolve to be guided by the highest ideals of the Code of Ethics. However, during the year Committee Chairpersons are asked to observe the work of persons on their committee who go the extra mile in fulfilling the efforts of the association.   The names are forwarded to a sub-committee made up of some members of the BOD and independent members for ratification and a winner is adjudged.

The winner is the association’s ambassador during the ensuing year.  The main duties are community based.   He or she is expected to visit schools highlighting the duties of the office professional and assists in Careers’ Days and generally perform other civic duties.
